ARM Community: Spreading the Multicore Message 'Down Under' - ARM Community

ARM is heading to Multicore World 2012 to discuss ARM MPCore solutions and grow the development ecosystem in New Zealand.

If you were to ask most people what New Zealand is famous for, you’d probably hear it has more sheep than people, suggesting that the most that small country down-under can offer is open spaces and woolly clothing – how wrong.

Later this month, the balance will be put a little out of shape, starting on the 27^th March for two days a number of international speakers and researchers and I will be taking time to specifically travel to New Zealand to address and participate within their growing community of businesses and technology innovators addressing the international challenge of multicore at Multicore World 2012.

ARM today has very little of its development ecosystem located in the southern hemisphere, however this opportunity to inform the community about the ARM MPCore solutions and vision was too good to be missed. As such, I will be travelling from the UK to New Zealand to share and participate with this growing community. As well as speaking on the topic of ARM MPCore Technology, I will also be discussing the growing trends and need to extend multicore into avenues of heterogonous compute, with GPGPU processing providing acceleration to the general purpose multicore compute. The ARM big.LITTLE™ processing model of heterogeneous microarchitecture within a common architecture, will also be discussed as it sits posed to deliver the next generation of highly energy efficient, high performance mobile devices.

So, if you should either be ‘just passing’, or as is the case with many of the attendees and speakers consider the importance of such communities, willing to fly to the other side of the world, I hope to see you at Multicore World 2012.

John Goodacre, Director of Technology and Systems, ARM. John joined ARM in February 2002 and took responsibility for their platform architecture. Today he is Director of Program Management focused on various programs around the application processor’s technology roadmap including the definition and market development of the ARM MPCore multicore processor technology.

Prior to working at ARM, he specialized in enterprise software having worked for Microsoft for 5 years, firstly as Group Program Manager in the Exchange Server group and latterly as the manager of a team developing mobile phones software.

Graduating from the University of York with a BSc in Computer Science, John has over 20 years experience of realizing new technologies in the engineering industry.
