ARM Mobile Showcase at MWC 2012: Multicore, Security & LTE

As Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 continues, there is no shortage of ARM technology on display by the ARM Connected Community, from quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 and Cortex-A15 based smartphones to revolutionary innovations in mobile payment technology. In this blog I’ll cover announcements from NVIDIA, Samsung LSI, Giesecke & Devrient, Huawei, Texas Instruments and HTC.

NVIDIA
Mike Rayfield, GM of the Mobile Business Unit at NVIDIA, gave me a tour of the NVIDIA stand where he showed me the latest Tegra 3 tablets and smartphones based on the quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 as well as some amazing mobile gaming demos.

Samsung LSI
Massimiliano Villani, Senior Manager of Mobile Marketing at Samsung, discussed with me the benefits of 32nm HKMG process technology along with the advantages of coupling the ARM Cortex and Mali GPU technologies in the Exynos platform.

G&D
I stopped by the Giesecke & Devrient stand where they walked me through the MobiCore security platform and advantages that ARM TrustZone brings to their products.

Huawei
Jerry Su, the Chief Architect of the Mobile Application Processor at Huawei, gave me a demo of the Ascend D Quad, their latest quad-core smartphone, which features the recently announced K3V2 processor (based on quad core ARM Cortex-A9).

Texas Instruments
At the TI stand I got a chance to demo full HD video streaming on an LTE modem with OMAP 4 and OMAP 5 integration.

HTC
This week HTC announced three new Android HTC One series smartphones. With these handsets, HTC has figured out just about everything a user could want including Beats Audio integration for excellent sound quality, burst mode on the camera which allows you to take a series of quick photos in sequence, and a sleek and slim design which is easy on the eyes. I’ll definitely be looking for this one when it hits the market.

More blogs from MWC 2012:

Katie Morgan, Digital Marketing Lead, ARM, was thrown into the fast paced and exciting world of technology in 2007. She has now fully transformed into a technology enthusiast that always has at least her smartphone in hand, mini laptop and (now adding to the list) tablet at her side. Exploring the ever-evolving digital and social media outlets of Web 2.0 (wait is it Web 3.0 already?) is her thing. She is enjoying the rapid innovation that is changing her highly connected lifestyle into "connected without borders."
