We had a great time at Mobile World Congress (MWC) seeing all the new products that are powered with ARM Mali GPUs. There has been much speculation on the web (some of it less than accurate) about which GPUs are being used by Samsung in their Exynos chips. So it was great to get confirmation direct from Samsung at MWC that Mali is in the next-generation Exynos 5250 along with a dual-core CortexTM-A15. In the video below, Massimiliano Villani, Senior Manager Mobile Marketing for Samsung, can be seen talking about the excellent performance of the Exynos 5250...the first processor able to natively drive a WQXGA display. It’s always good to hear from our partners about how they turn ARM’s world-class IP into great products. As Massimiliano says, “We benchmarked several GPUs and we found that the overall architecture of the Mali family provided by ARM is nowadays the best in class for GPU performance”.Steve Steele, Senior Product Manager, Media Processing Division, ARM, Steve joined ARM in 2001 and has managed a number of technologies including ARM’s Java program, software products, data engine (DSP), PV fast modelling and video IP. Steve is currently a product manager in the Media Processing Division team with special responsibility for the Mali-T604 and Mali-T658 GPUs. Previously Steve was at Thales Optronics where he managed a major project to design and build an EO reconnaissance system for the Royal Air Force. Before that Steve worked at Vitec where his experience covered embedded hardware and software design, system design and product marketing for robotics in the broadcast television industry. Steve holds a BSc(Hons) in Physics with Physical Electronics from the University of Bath and an MBA from Nottingham Business School.
