Connected Home, Connected Life Seminar

On the 26th March ARM brought together a selection of Partners to present a daylong seminar focusing on the key elements affecting products being designed for the Home. This Home Seminar was attended by over 200 attendees from all the major ODM and SOC suppliers. The topics covered included the coming of Internet access and multimedia, the software re-use model, leveraging mobile solutions in non mobile applications, highlighting the Open Source environment and the diverse ARM ecosystem. The presentations were split between ARM and the following Partners covering the complete supply chain from Operator to SOC to Software partners:

Chunghwa Telecom a major Taiwanese ISP, talked about how they expect IPTV to change the whole industry. With Full HD, 3D UI and Fibre networking highlighted as the key trend from their presentation.

The Committee of Communication discussed how networking would impact the whole industry.

Nokia/Qt demonstrated the role of the application framework, which enables people to build cross platforms to carry multimedia content and services.


ST as a major STB provider demonstrated the multimedia trend and highlighted the important positioning on Cortex-A9 + Mali-400 as their next platform.


Ubiquitous showed how a 1 sec boot up on a typical home appliance for Android/Linux is key.

Opens Embedded Software Foundation (OESF) highlighted their role as the platform for non-mobile developers of Android/Linux.


Socle has adopted Mali-200 with ARM1176 and demoed Android at the event. The market response to their platform is great.

Demos included Mali-200, Mali-400, Cortex-A9 and Android across multiple platforms.




Tom Wang, Segment Marketing Manager, ARM, joined ARM in Oct 2004 and in his role he is responsible for ARM in the Taiwan market, technology & product marketing of strategic planning & development plans and to maintain relationships with existing partners. Tom in the industry accumulated more than 20 years of experience, place of work encompasses the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific region, product areas across the MFP, CD Player, multifunction printers, scanners, and mobile phones, product development, market development and marketing. Prior to joining ARM, Tom worked at Philips, Intel and other companies for a number of different businesses, toured the United States and Asian countries.
