ARM Scratches with Raspberry Pi and A-mazes at The Big Bang Fair 2013

Last week at the ExCeL Conference Centre in London, ARM were in attendance at The Big Bang Fair, an event targeted at children and young adults interested in finding out more about ‘everything from robotics to nuclear reactors and from pharmacology to physics.’ ARM was a Corporate Sponsor at the event, appearing on the show floor alongside some of the UK’s leading science, technology, and engineering organizations.

ARM was represented by a talented team of recent graduates who put on a fantastic show for the estimated 70,000 attendees of the event which took place over four days. The first two days were reserved for schools to bring classes, while Saturday and Sunday were open for parents and adults to bring children along. In total there were over 120 interactive exhibits, demonstrations and practical activities for the children to get involved in! One of the main aims of the show was for the children to learn the right qualifications needed for different types of science and engineering roles, so having graduates that have recently joined ARM was useful and enabled them to pass on words of wisdom to aspiring new generation of engineers. Profiles of the graduates and more information about ARM attendance at the show can be found at ...

ARM Partnership, Ecosystem and Social Media

ARM’s partnerships, ecosystem and social media all go hand in hand into continually drive and strengthen ARM’s ecosystem, technology innovations and brand awareness. We were recently named the 8th best company in the FTSE 100 using social media in the Social Media in the City study, so I thought I’d delve a little further into how and why we use it.

Partnership is an overused word in industry, but inside of ARM, we try to and live up to its true meaning. Our business model is such that we need our partners to be successful and sell products before we can really be successful. To that end, we need to work not just with the System on Chip (SoC) Partners but a much greater ecosystem of partners from OEM’s through to software providers. This is across diverse industries, from deeply embedded medical and street lighting to high-end server and cloud computing suppliers and everything and everyone in between (some say Internet of Things to Cloud). We also have to do this across the globe with partners in the smallest developing countries quite often needing the same information and support as the leading developed nations.

Because our sales cycles are long and complicated, involving a lot of different people and partners, we utilize ...

ARM TechCon 2012 Day 2- Great Keynotes, Samsung Innovation, and Cadence on Cortex-M0

Simon Segars, EVP and General Manager Processor and Physical IP of ARM, once again opened the event for day two of the biggest ARM event of the year, after launching the ARM CortexTM-A53 and Cortex-A57 processors in his opening keynote. This time he was compared as he firstly introduced us to Dr. Jonathan Koomey, Consulting Professor, Stanford University who gave a captivating presentation on the computing revolution that is happening today and how this is affected by computing efficiency. A great example was given of a product that really show the Internet of Things (IoT) at work today with the Big Belly solar powered trash (UK: rubbish) compactor which is environmentally friendly in so many ways. Firstly it compacts the stuff we throw away by a factor of five and then when it’s totally full it sends a message to the garbage collector (UK: bin men) so they can schedule the most efficient way of popping round and emptying it – the costs of collecting are therefore greatly reduced and the wasted collection of half empty bins is stopped, so less greenhous...

ARM TechCon 2012 Day 1 - Cortex-A50 Launch, Panel Discussion and Busy Sessions

‘Welcome to the biggest and best ARM® TechConTM ever’ was how Simon Segars, EVP and General Manager Processor and Physical IP of ARM, could have opened his keynote this morning here in a warm and sunny Santa Clara. I’m here at the 8th ARM TechCon where, during his keynote, Simon announced the new ARM Cortex™-A50 processor series, based upon the ARMv8 architecture. The series initially includes the Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57 processors and introduces a new, energy-efficient 64-bit processing technology, ...

Free technical sessions, giveaways galore at ARM TechCon 2012

The final countdown has begun towards ARM TechCon 2012 and one thing I’m looking forward to is a bit of warmer weather in Santa Clara. The weather over here in the United Kingdom has been pretty dire over the last week and is said to be very cold next week.

I just wanted to give you a little more insight as to what is on offer next week, including highlighting some opportunities to pick up some cool freebies showcasing some of the latest ARM technology on offer. There’s so much going on next week so I’m sorry I can’t list everything but this should give you an idea of what you can expect.

There are lots of free sponsored sessions at the show again this year, in addition to the main conference programme. If you’ve already registered for the event then you may well have received an email recently with a link to enable you to pick which ones you want to attend. I’m particularly interested in the ‘Power Efficient big.LITTLE™ Processing: Lessons Learned from a 28nm...
