ARM comes to CES Part 1

My CES experience really started yesterday when I was boarding my flight for Las Vegas yesterday. There was family of four in front of me and they asked me where I was going? I said Vegas. The father asked me are you going to that big nerd show…what is it called CES? And I said yes, that’s me a bonafide nerd. The man turned to his daughters and said “see it’s not bad being a Nerd, even Nerds go to Vegas”. What that father said to his daughters really struck a chord with me, because today being a Nerd is actually kind of cool, especially if you are at CES and can at least understand a few of the acronyms. Today, especially for a CES first timer was quite an audio-visual mind boggle. The array of gimmicks, gadgets was quite inspiring. A couple of things caught my eye, the HP printer with direct internet access was a true testament to the Web 2.0 experience with the cloud at your finger tips…No traditional compute element required! I was also fortunate enough to attend the nVidia Press Announcement this morning led by the CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang. The highlight of event was all about the tablet and Tegra…with great plans for the Compal tablet, there surely will be great things to come in the tablet market from nVidia. You can have a look at nVidia press conference on Charbax blog, ARMdevices.net, a great coverage of the event. The Tegra platform consumes 20x less power than a PC with equivalent resolution to a PC and it is so efficient that it’s performance is 10x the average smartphone. So it’s all about the new Tegra! Huang demonstrated seamless 1080p playback streamed in full HD from the movie “Iron Man”. This technology will make internet everywhere more enjoyable and reliable. Even CEO and founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney even came on stage to show a demo using Unreal Engine 3 showing a spectacular graphics and depth on a gaming demo. I can’t wait till these products hit the stores, CES brings a whole new light to what’s actually possible in technology for consumers!
